Bihar Politics: Uncertainty Surrounding Nitish Kumar’s Allegiance

News comes from the source of Reader Wall that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has called upon Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to make his political stance clear regarding his potential withdrawal from the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in Bihar.

Request for Clarity

According to RJD national vice president Shivanand Tiwari, Nitish Kumar has yet to respond to their inquiries. Rumors are rife that Kumar may decide to realign with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), potentially leading to a government reformation should he decide to abandon the RJD and the Congress.

“Yesterday, we requested a meeting, but Nitish ji has yet to grant us an appointment. We had hoped Nitish ji would not make such an error once more. Now what else is left to understand and comprehend? The situation is crystal clear. How often will he drift towards the NDA? Is he trying to make history?” Shivanand Tiwari inquired.

Public Confusion

RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha expressed his expectation that Nitish Kumar, who leads the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), would put an end to the prevailing speculation surrounding his potential return to the NDA.

“We created a government together to improve the wellbeing of the populace and to resist the BJP. The ongoing ambiguity is disrupting public life in Bihar. Only the Chief Minister can eliminate this confusion. We anticipate he will do so by this evening,” Manoj Kumar Jha stated.

Hectic Activity in Patna

Several leaders were observed entering and exiting from 10, Circular Road, Patna, Rabri Devi—RJD chief Lalu Yadav’s spouse—resides here along with her husband and younger son and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

“We have instigated measures to prevent Nitish Kumar from repeating his actions from years ago. Our party runs the Mahagathbandhan, which falls only 20 seats short of majority in the assembly of 243 members. As the Speaker is from our party, we will pool our resources,” a RJD leader informed PTI.

A Repeated History?

In 2017, Nitish Kumar had exited the RJD-Congress alliance to form a government with the BJP, an alliance he initially opposed in the assembly elections two years prior. Nevertheless, in August 2022, he made his way back to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) opposition, accusing the BJP of attempting to catalyze a split in the JD(U).
