Edo princess Ebuwa Charles-Igiehon is bringing hope to underprivileged children in a unique way through the world of entertainment. Her organization, the King Heart Advocacy for Women and Children Foundation, recently launched a talent hunt initiative called ‘Orphans Talent Plus.’ This initiative, which took place at the Edo Film Academy in Benin City on December 16 and 17, 2023, provided a stage for orphans from different homes to showcase their skills in singing, acting, dancing, and fashion. The aim was not only to uncover hidden talents but also to create opportunities that are often out of reach for these children.
Spotlighting Talent and Creating Opportunities
Orphans Talent Plus brought together underprivileged children from various backgrounds, giving them a chance to compete for cash prizes. The winners, who were from the Tender Heart orphanage and the Felicia Lily Orphanage home, received cash awards ranging from N50,000 to N20,000. However, the event held a promise that went beyond the monetary rewards. It was about discovering and nurturing the innate talents of these children and showcasing their potential to the world.
Collaboration for Positive Change
This event, initiated by Princess Ebuwa, was organized in conjunction with Lancelot Imasuen’s Benin Film Academy. It also received support from different organizations, including Levan hotel and Lahor Music Worldwide. The latter went a step further than just providing sponsorship and offered a recording contract to the winner of the singing competition. This stands as proof of the transformative power this initiative has in changing lives.
A Source of Hope
Princess Ebuwa plans to make ‘Orphans Talent Plus’ an annual event, using the influence of entertainment to amplify the voices of underprivileged women and children. By shining a light on these children, she aims to tackle the challenges they face and provide them with opportunities and hope for a brighter future. In a society where the less fortunate are often neglected, initiatives like this serve as a beacon of hope, showing that talent can blossom despite adversity.
