A Tunisian man has been given an indefinite hospital order by a UK court for stabbing and killing his 19-year-old Indian-origin girlfriend in 2022. The incident took place in Clerkenwell, east London, where Sabita Thanwani, an aspiring psychologist, was fatally stabbed in the neck by her 24-year-old partner, Maher Maaroufe. Sabita died at the scene, and a post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was a sharp force trauma to the neck. Although Maher was not a student, he was in a relationship with Sabita at the time of the attack. He admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, as he was suffering from schizoaffective disorder. On Monday, Judge Nigel Lickley sentenced Maher to a hospital order without a time limit at the Old Bailey court in London. During the sentencing, the judge described Maher as “aggressive” and “controlling” in his relationship with Sabita and stated that the attack occurred during a “height” of a psychotic episode. Maher had entered the UK legally but had overstayed and was in the process of claiming asylum when the attack took place. News come from source of Reader Wall.
