Owen Tippett: A Shining Star of the Philadelphia Flyers Signs Magnificent Extension

News comes from the source of Reader Wall that the Philadelphia Flyers have announced a lucrative and lengthy contract extension for star player Owen Tippett. The $49.6 million deal spans eight years, ensuring Tippett’s presence as a central figure during the team’s revitalization and anticipated prosperous future.

Details of Tippett’s Contract

The announcement was made on a recent Friday by General Manager Daniel Briere. The contract comes into effect from the next NHL season. This means Tippett’s payout will amount to $6.2 million per year beginning from the 2023-24 season, impacting the salary cap until the 2031-32 season.

Tippett’s Performance to Date

At just 24 years of age, Tippett has shown impressive form. He stands second among Flyers players in goals, having scored 18 to date this season. He is also tied for second position in points, with a tally of 30 in 46 games. In a memorable game against the Dallas Stars, he made a standout performance by orchestrating a stunning play that was nothing short of a personal highlight reel. Tippett showed his agility by passing the puck to himself off the boards, swiftly manoeuvring around a defender and executing a perfect backhander past goaltender Jake Oettinger.

Besides his scoring prowess, Tippett also holds the record for fastest burst of speed by a player this season, clocking 24.21 mph during an overtime game against Montreal on January 10.

The skilful player was the 10th pick in the 2017 draft. He has been with Philadelphia since the team obtained him from Florida at the 2022 trade deadline. A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Tippett has scored 86 points in 144 games with the Flyers. Prior to that he notched up 33 points in 94 games while with Florida.

Ryan Poehling Also Receives Extension

According to an anonymous source, the Flyers also agreed to terms on a two-year, $3.8 million extension with center Ryan Poehling. The deal is reportedly worth $1.9 million over the next two seasons. Poehling, now in his third organization at 25, has flourished under coach John Tortorella’s guidance, functioning effectively as a depth forward and penalty killer.
