Even as Rahul Gandhi Expresses Affection, Mamata Banerjee Branded “Opportunist” by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, launched a fiery criticism against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday, labelling her an ‘opportunist’. This occurred shortly after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi referred to the Trinamool Congress chief, making it known that they enjoy a close relationship. The news originates from Reader Wall’s sources.

Congress Will Not Contest Elections at Mamata Banerjee’s Mercy

Chowdhury vehemently stated, “We will not bow down and contest the elections at the mercy of Mamata Banerjee. Congress is perfectly capable of contesting elections on its own. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, we won two seats by overcoming Mamata and BJP. Mamta gained power in 2011 due to the support of Congress, hence her opportunistic tactics are not surprising,” Chowdhury declared, as quoted by Reader Wall.

Earlier that day, Rahul Gandhi had emphasized Banerjee’s close ties while undertaking his current ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam. He had mentioned how interactions and a bit of banter among party leaders from both sides was a regular occurrence, and it did not necessarily mean that disquiet was brewing internally.

TMC Chief Expresses Discontent Towards Congress Over Delayed Discussions

In a more recent update, Banerjee, in a private party meeting, slammed Congress for stalling discussions regarding seat-sharing for the INDIA alliance in West Bengal, asserting that Congress’s unjustified demands for 10-12 Lok Sabha constituencies were causing delays. Banerjee’s party was only willing to share two seats.

During the internal gathering in Birbhum, Banerjee pushed party leaders to prepare for the fierce electoral battle, emphasising the crucial need for the TMC’s victory in the Lok Sabha seats from the district, as reported by Reader Wall.

Other than Congress, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) also forms part of the INDIA alliance. Mamata Banerjee had made a grand entry into Bengal’s political power circles in 2011, overcoming the Communist Party-led Left Front, which had reigned over the state for 34 years.
