Increased Activity in Iranian Ports: A Surge in Staple Goods Handling

Information received from our in-house sources indicates a significant escalation in staple goods handling within Iran’s ports in the present Iranian calendar year, from March 21, 2023, till February 22, 2024. The total amount of staple goods offloaded during this timeframe was reported to be 19,649,887 tons.
Main Commodities Reported
The prime agricultural products involved in this escalation include commodities like wheat, barley, corn, soya, rice, sugar, and vegetable oil. Notably, corn and soya emerged as two commodities witnessing the most growth, with an increase of 26% and 17% respectively.
Major Imports
An extensive review of the data revealed by our sources confirms that over two million tons of wheat and one million tons of barley were unloaded during this period at Iranian ports.
Growth in Port Operations
In addition to this, Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development released data that showed a 4.3% growth in loading and unloading operations within the container sector of Iranian ports. This expansion was observed for the initial nine months of the year. The report is suggestive of a general upswing in port operations compared to their performance in the previous year.
