Northern Marianas Housing Corporation Proposes Amendments to Disaster Recovery Action Plan
Goal: Help Non-Low to Moderate Income Families Hit by Typhoon Mangkhut and Super Typhoon Yutu
The Northern Marianas Housing Corporation (NMHC) has recently released a series of proposed updates to its Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Action Plan from our sources. The revisions focus on resolving the housing needs of non-Low to Moderate Income (LMI) families affected by both Typhoon Mangkhut and Super Typhoon Yutu.
A Shift in Income Limit Schedule: Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Financial Assistance Expected
The amendments suggest altering the income limit agenda. Specifically, the change will allow families with household incomes surpassing 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI) to become eligible for financial assistance. This aid aims to help with crucial home rehabilitation or transformation activities.
Addressing Unfulfilled Disaster Needs in Saipan and Tinian
This strategic adjustment seeks to satisfy unmet disaster requirements in the areas most severely impacted and distressed by the typhoons. This includes, but is not limited to, the Municipalities of Saipan and Tinian. The proposed alterations include a meticulous income range grouping for diverse types of help.
Amendments Subject to Public Review Until March 28, 2024
The suggested revisions are available to the public for review and comment within a 30-day period ending March 28, 2024. The concurrence from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is necessary for these amendments. It’s noteworthy that they have yet to object to the proposed considerable amendment.
