In various parts of San Diego, cars were displaced by the floodwaters, resulting in numerous pile-ups. Mountain View, Shelltown, and Southcrest neighborhoods took the brunt of the flooding, with important highways, such as Interstate 15, submerged in several feet of water.
Record Rainfall
A record-breaking 3 inches (7.6 cm) of rain was recorded in National City just adjacent to San Diego, and 2 inches (5 cm) at San Diego International Airport.
Rescue and Evacuation Operations
Residents in the Spring Valley and Casa de Oro neighborhoods were rescued by sheriff’s deputies after their homes were flooded. Some residents managed to leave their homes by wading through waist-high water with their pets.
