India’s prominent Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, has launched his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ from Kohima, Nagaland, as part of his political campaign. The yatra, which means ‘Unite India Justice March’ in Hindi, began in Manipur and aims to bridge divisions and seek justice across the country.

Political Walk for Unity and Justice

The yatra will cover 100 Lok Sabha constituencies in 15 States, covering a distance of 6,700 km. It will involve a combination of foot and bus travel, allowing for engagement with locals, cultural groups, and ethnic organizations to address pressing socio-political issues. During the launch in Manipur, Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his absence during the state’s ethnic violence, which resulted in the loss of more than 180 lives and displaced thousands.

Meeting Point: Kohima

Continuing the yatra in Kohima, Rahul Gandhi interacted with locals and received a memorandum from a delegation of the Naga HOHO, representing Naga organizations. The memorandum highlighted the non-implementation of the Framework Agreement signed between the Indian Central Government and the NSCN-IM in 2015. The divisions within Manipuri society, following the ethnic violence, became evident during the yatra, with Meitei community party workers opting out before reaching Kangpokpi.

Press Conference in Kohima

Rahul Gandhi emphasized the campaign’s focus on unity and justice during his press conference in Kohima. His remarks likely reflect the party’s stance on current national issues. He also expressed gratitude to the people of Manipur as the yatra entered Nagaland. The second day of the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in strife-torn Manipur was marked by hopes for peace and harmony to return to the northeastern state.

As the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ progresses, it continues to shed light on the struggles and concerns of the population. Despite the challenges ahead, this initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to unity, justice, and a more inclusive India.
