In a speech delivered on January 14, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir urged ex-servicemen to contribute to the ongoing fight against terrorism in the region. Sinha’s plea stressed the crucial role they can play in ensuring peace and security, highlighting the persistent security challenges faced by Jammu and Kashmir.

Call to Action: Utilizing the Expertise of Ex-Servicemen

During his address, Sinha emphasized the progress made in the region over the past four years, particularly the coordination between the police, army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in their joint efforts to combat terrorism. His call for active participation from retired soldiers, officers, and policemen underscores the administration’s strategy to strengthen defenses by involving experienced military personnel in safeguarding the territory. This initiative is part of broader measures aimed at maintaining stability in a region historically prone to terrorist activities and conflicts.

Supporting the Protectors: Policies for Ex-Servicemen

Sinha announced the establishment of Sainik Colonies in Jammu and Kashmir provinces, as well as an increase in ex-gratia for the families of fallen soldiers. These measures seek to provide support to veterans and their families, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the well-being of those who serve the nation. The Lieutenant Governor also paid tribute to the Veer Naris, courageous women who have lost their husbands in service to the nation.

Enhanced Security Measures: Taking a Proactive Approach

Illustrating the administration’s proactive strategy, Lieutenant General Upendera Dwivedi stated that troops are prioritizing the Pir Panjal valley and highlighted the achievement of zero infiltrations in 2023, with only 21 locals joining terrorist ranks. The government’s focus on involving ex-servicemen in counter-terrorism efforts and the emphasis on enhanced security measures underscore its determination to maintain peace and stability in the region.
