Audi Plans EV Retrofit for Iconic RS6 Wagon
Car manufacturer Audi is planning to bring back the RS6, a beloved symbol of speed and power that was discontinued in 2010, as a fully electric vehicle (EV) by 2025.
Renewal of a Classic
Audi chose to revive the RS6 with the introduction of the RS6 Avant in 2021. Now, there’s excitement about the upcoming release of the RS6 e-Tron. This station wagon will combine high performance with power provided by electricity. Porsche and Audi are working together on this project, utilizing VW Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) which ensures high performance and enables 800-volt charging.
Prospects for the RS6 e-Tron
Even though detailed information about the RS6 e-Tron isn’t public yet, it is anticipated to maintain Audi’s reputation for performance now combined with efficiency and environmental friendliness. Despite the appeal of the current RS6 Avant, which comes with a twin-turbo V-8 engine powered by gas and electric, the car industry is moving more towards electric alternatives. Other manufactures such as Volkswagen with their ID.7 Tourer and Nio with their ET5 Touring are also turning heads in the EV station wagon market.
Audi’s Approach to Electric Vehicles
This switch to electric models is not a standalone initiative by Audi but part of a wider plan for electrification and sustainability. The car manufacturer aims to have net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and is also working on creating numerous fast-charge stations across Europe by 2025. This move is in line with Audi’s decision to discontinue the production of combustion engine vehicles by 2033, except for in China where there is still high demand.
The RS6 e-Tron, built on the PPE platform, is anticipated to have a two motor all-wheel drive system providing 469 horse power and 590 lb-ft of torque. It aims to provide 435 WLTP miles of distance on a single charge. With the same familiar grille and new split-level lights, the RS6 e-Tron is predicted to transform the station wagon segment of the EV market.”);
